Hey Everyone!

So this week Dawn McVey did it again with her colour choices! I’m in love with these colours, just looking at them reminds me of an old fashioned ice cream shop! YUM!

Since I needed to make a cute birthday card for my coworkers birthday this Thursday, I decided to kill two birds with one stone..create a card to fit the challenge as well as one that would suit my beautiful friend for her birthday!
I used all Papertrey Ink products: Aqua Mist, Berry Sorbet, Dark Chocolate and Stampers Select White for my cardstock, the floral image comes from their ‘Green Thumb’ stamp set and the sentiment is from their ‘Wishing You’ set.

To polish off the card, I used my Nestabilities Small Circle and Small Scalloped Circle for the sentiment, as well as my Nestabilities Labels die for the image background. Once the floral image had been cut out I ran it through my Cuttlebug with my favorite folder, Swiss Dots..it just adds that little extra somethin’ don’t you think?
Last but not least I used my Dark Chocolate, polka dot ribbon as well as Diamond Stickles for the flower centres. Cute, cute and cute!!

Twelve years ago today we lost a vital member of our family. 12 years ago I was thirteen years old, sitting next to my grandma in a hospital room, telling her all about my jr. high life and not wanting to leave her. I remember she couldn’t talk due to the tracheotomy in her throat, but she would point to letters on a page to make out words and we talked for hours! When I went to leave I told her I loved her.. and that was the last thing I ever said to her. She passed away a few days later. She was a beautiful, strong woman and she left this world way too soon. Here is her graduation photo, wasn’t she beautiful?

And this next photo was always a favorite of mine, she just seemed so amazing to me as a kid, almost untouchable. And now that its been 12 years, I’ve grown to see her as an actual person instead of the grandma figure I saw her as, as a child. I’m starting to learn about who she was as a person and often feel desperate for stories of her, wanting to know her better and wanting to know where I come from..

In honor of my grandma today I made a card out of her favorite flower, the lilac. This was a very old piece of paper from my stash of goodies that I was holding on to til I could do it justice. I cut the 12×12 page in half, one half will go towards a scrapbook page of her, the other half went to this card..

The paper is from K & Company and the lilacs are embossed on the page which gives the card a great sense of reality. The colours are beautiful so I just added 2 varying shades of lilac cardstock for the background as well as stamped my sentiment from Papertrey Ink’s ‘Birds of a Feather’ stamp set.

I finished off the card with simple white ribbon and silver rhinestones..

Something tells me I might just keep this card for myself to serve as a reminder of this beautiful woman we lost way too soon..

Happy Friday Everyone!

Tonight is a beautiful start to a long weekend here, the temperature is fairly warm, the sun is shining and there’s just that feeling you get when you know you have 3 days ahead of you to do absolutely anything you want!

On my drive home from work today, I noticed a lot of people pulling their trailers behind them, heading for the highway for what they hope to be a great weekend of camping. As May Long (aka Victoria Day) marks the first long weekend of Spring/Summer, its often a tradition to pack up your friends or family and head for the hills! To celebrate, I decided to use my ‘Mr. Campy’ papers and stamp set to make this cutie of a card..

I used Vintage Cream for the card base and all other supplies were from the ‘Mr. Campy’ line. As the papers are a very cool retro pattern, I ran brown ink along the base to add to the vintage feel as well as stitched around the background to give it a homespun look..I love this card so much!

Here’s just a closer look at the stitching..

These papers really reminded me of spending my childhood at Elkwater Lake, which is just 45 minutes away from here. We had a cabin out there and our whole extended family would spend our time there building forts, running down to the corner store for candies, building sand castles at the beach and just having good old fashion fun! I miss those days:)In fact, my cousin found this oldie but goodie of all of us cousins on the deck of our cabin, posing with my Grandma and Grandpa Petrick who have since passed away.. I’m the little lady on the left with my grandpa!

I hope you enjoy this weekend no matter what you do..take the time to relax and enjoy those around you. And if you get a chance? Snap a few pictures for good memories like this one above..you never know when it will mean a whole lot more to you!!

Hey Everyone!

How is your week coming along? I’m so excited for the upcoming long weekend here that I can barely contain myself! I don’t have huge plans but I hope to get a lot of cleaning/organizing done, visiting with friends and family and hopefully some stamping in as well! I just received my Taylored Expressions, ‘Boys Will be Boys” stamps in today so expect to see some Father’s Day samples coming soon..this set is adorable, I cannot wait to show you the finished cards!
Meanwhile, I have so many stamps in my collection from Stamping Bella, and I thought I would share this one that I made a little while ago for my cousins’ store in Saskatoon, Amos and Andes. Their cute boutique sells a good variety of my cards (yay!) so if you are ever near them, make sure to stop by and say hi!

I wanted to go a little bit more girlie with this one, so I made sure to grab my paper pad from Papertrey Ink for the polka dot background, as well as used my ‘Melon Berry’ and New Leaf’ cardstock for the base. My favorite part of this image is the cupcake, of course, so to make it stand out and look yummalicious I layered on my ‘Fruit Punch’ stickles and look at the result!

The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink’s 2nd Anniversary set and was also stamped in ‘Melon Berry’.
What are your plans for the weekend ahead? Whatever they are, I hope its warm and sunny for you!!

I have to admit that I often have a hard time making masculine cards. I don’t know what it is but when I’m in need of one, I often just sit and stare at my stash of goodies in complete wonder! This time though, I was so excited because I love my Cat’s Pajama’s stamps and I knew they would be perfect for this exact card! A few years ago I moved to Victoria, BC and it was a life changing experience for me. I met some amazing friends that I still keep in contact with and every year I make sure to send them a handmade card to let them know I’m thinking of them on their special day. Last year I was running behind and ended up sending a store bought card (!) and I never heard the end of it. So this year, I came prepared:)

I rounded up my Smokey Shadow cardstock and some star patterened papers and then inked up these stamps. I cut the sentiment and border out with my Sm. Circle Nestabilities and coloured my image in with Copics. For an added embellishment I placed “New Leaf” buttons on the bottom corner.

The finishing touch was using Liquid Applique for the cupcake frosting. Just lightly squeeze the product on to the surface you desire and set aside. Once it is dried completely, use your heating gun and watch the applique bubble up! Isn’t it great? Give it a few minutes to dry and then once its cool to the touch your good to go!

Matty should be receiving this card in about a week’s time and I truly hope he loves this card that was made especially for him. Happy Birthday Matty 😉

Have a great night!
