Tuesday was kind of, sort of..one of “those” days. I was in a mood and it was cold but not snowy and I just kind of didn’t want to document the day. But I pushed thru anyways and still captured the jist of how our Tuesday went. The morning was dedicated to cleaning, vacuuming, starting laundry and caring for baby. By one we were in our truck once again and headed to town 30 miles away for eye appts for the whole family. I am not proud to say this but, I have only been to an optometrist once in my life and I believe I was around…oh, 16?!? Yeah..I have good eyesight but I know it isn’t the same as it once was so was a tad nervous but it turns out my vision is still 20/20 (yay me!) Hudson passed his tests with flying colours as well and Adam’s astigmatism hasn’t advanced any further but we are talking about lasik now, so maybe that’ll be in the books for 2015.
Other than that, it was a pretty quiet Tuesday. On our way home from our appts we grabbed a late lunch/early supper, met a trucker down South at our bins who was picking up a load for us then headed home to build a bonfire from all the branches I had picked up over the weekend. Then it was a bath and bedtime, drink a glass of wine and watch Chicago Fire kinda night 😉
My observations yesterday were pretty clear. My house is too cluttered for my liking. We just have too much “stuff” and it calls for my immediate attention. Time to clean this house out of useless junk because a cluttered home = a cluttered mind and ain’t nobody got time for that! I am constantly taking photos of us in our environment and hating the background or the pile of papers on the counter or the box of garbage near the door..things I looked passed when I wasn’t trying to take photos in our home. But it cannot be ignored any longer.
With that, here are a few of Tuesdays photos:

all in all I am really happy with how I have been documenting this project so far and really glad that I am sticking with it (and SO excited to see it all come together in an album!) I definitely noticed that my mood yesterday is reflected in these photos…I captured our basic day and turned most of them into black and white photographs because they just felt like it fit better to me!

and now its Wednesday and I am already designing my page concepts for the album…love.this.project

I posted a photo on Instagram yesterday morning of the snow beginning to fall on our farm..this photo was taken maybe 20 minutes afterwards when it truly turned into a winter wonderland around here! I was in heaven. I love the snow..especially from now until Christmas. And even though it only snowed a few inches in the morning (and is completely gone today) I took advantage of this peek into winter that I was given. Running around with Hudson in his stroller, excitedly showing him the snowflakes that gently fell onto his eyelashes as he watched all the white fluff fall around him.
it was a good day

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty stoked to get our first snowfall the morning I began documenting a week into our lives..I mean, hello story of a Canadian prairie girl!!
Our day was filled with getting things organized in the morning for our day trip down to Montana to grab our new bed we had purchased a few weeks back on our way home from Washington. We were so excited because our old bed had definitely seen better days! We did a bit of shopping while we were down but made it home early enough to move beds and bed frames, set up our new bed, feed and bathe Hudson before his usual bedtime of 7:00pm and still had time to catch a show or two before calling it a day. All in all, I was happy with the details I captured both on my DSLR and my iPhone but definitely need to incorporate more photos of myself doing whatever it is I am doing in any given moment. Thank you Ali for the reminder..
So with that, here are a few of my photos taken yesterday:

I cannot wait to get these photos documented into my album! I am going to wait until next week to send everything off to the printers and then I will complete my album all at once. Heres to another day of documenting!!

  • dawn - Hi Dawn, SOOOO HAPPY to see these and the above pictures!! They are gorgeous, SNOW!!! So fun to see snow and see all of you in it. Adam is so awesome the way he lets you photograph him, reminds me of Rich always letting me get him too. Thank goodness for them, right!
Hudson is soooo cute and too big and soooo cute! So nice to see him go through his day with you and all he does at this age. I know your loving every minute of it.
Hope today was a good day for you in pictures and mood, it can be draining but push through and you will love it and treasure it always.
I’m doing pretty good and we are having a busy week which helps. My computer not working though, using the library one right now. So frustrated by this again, it’s been like that all year. But I am sharing tons on IG so that helps a little.
Enjoy your Halloween, post a picture of Hudson please and tag me so I won’t miss it. Can’t wait to see if you put him in a costume and/or what kind??!!! Happy end of October and Hello to our thankful month, YAY!

this week was full of outdoor activities due to the gorgeous Fall weather. We played in the leaves, went for walks daily, enjoyed sweater weather, did farm chores daily and got some work done like trenching a line from our farmhouse to my inlaws next door and even got our farmhouse painted this weekend!! (finally!) With a few windy days, we lost a ton of leaves on the trees and they are calling for a possibility of snow next week, which means this may have very well been our last week of fall. Makes me sad to think about it but so happy we took advantage while we could and, actually, a little excited for Winter!

So, grab a cup of coffee..heres a small peek at what we were up to this week on the farm:

Have a great week everyone! Tomorrow I start my Week in the Life project so, keep a look out for more photos of our daily lives here on the farm 😉

  • dawn - Hi Dawn, YAY YAY YAY!! Our week is finally here, can you believe it!! SOOOO excited for us and especially YOU and that sweet baby boy. I hope you will share lots of pictures on IG so I can see the gorgeous pictures you take of your farm and family. I loved seeing these pictures above, wish you could come and capture my family and yard this way. Hudson is so dang cute! Love seeing him in the leaves.
Ali’s kit does look great so have fun with it. I’m going to add mine into my PL and do one spread for each day. There isn’t really much to take pictures of during the days as most of mine are the same so I will do my best to get some of the kids at night. I also babysit twice so that will be nice and Renee has to bring home a pretend baby from Parenting class for the next 3 days, so fun that will be. Hoping I don’t hear it at 2am wanting fed, lol.
Good luck with your week and enjoy every minute of it. Wish so much that I could come and visit you at your farm, it’s so pretty.
p.s. the farm fresh eggs were so good this morning. I thought of you right away when she gave them to us. Rich can’t wait to get his own chickens now.
    hugs and love

I started recording my Week in the Life 2 years ago in April when Ali Edwards announced she would be documenting hers during that specific week in time. I was curious to see how well it would go for me and excited to document how our days evolved over the years. Next week it is time once again to join Ali in recording a week in your life and I am so, so excited for it this year! Why? Because we are now a family of 3 and before I even start my album, I already know how drastically different it will be compared to that spread made 2 years ago. How amazing will it be for us to go through my albums years down the road and see how things have changed for us..what a gift to my family it will be.

Today I spent Hudson’s morning nap time doing regular morning chores like kitchen cleanup and laundry, but then I also took some time to sit with my album and prep it using the kit contents I bought from Ali’s shop, available here

I have been thinking lately about how I want to approach this project this year. I am always taking photos of our daily life but, not so much the details..the “micro-stories” as Ali calls it. And this year I am really hoping to include glimpses of the hows and whys so that, years down the road when we look back on this album, the photos and stories I journal will really resonate with us. I also purchased her 8.5″ x 11″ templates so that I could digitally record my daily posts then print them all together when the week has passed.

This year I purchased a vanilla We R Memory keepers 8.5×11″ album and I plan to use this album for all my Week in the Life projects going forward (streamlining is key to my success)

Are you planning on recording your week in the life next week? If so, have fun with it and remember to record the details of your daily life..you could never possibly conceive just how special these memories will be for future generations..

  • Carmen Varner - Doing it each week sounds tedious but I bet it makes things that much easier & quicker. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

    • Dawn Cosgrove - Hi Carmen!
A week in the life is one specific week in the year to document your life and all it’s tiny details..definitely not something I do every week! But for one week, yes it’s tedious but totally worth it!

For me, Fall is all about nostalgia. I am not sure if its the excitement I had for buying new school supplies and meeting my friends that first day of class after a long summer off or if its the smell in the air as the world closes yet another seasonal door and drops its leaves off on the way out. Either way, Fall brings me comfort. When the wind starts to blow that familiar cool air in the evenings I turn to our kitchen, the hub of every home, and dream up comfort foods to get us through the cold nights that are sure to come.

Nothing brings me as much pleasure as the sight of a home lit up from outside, heat swirling from the chimney as the furnace chugs along and then walking in, cheeks burning from the nip outside, to smell all the goodness emanating from the kitchen. Be it hearty stews, homemade soups or my very favourite..cinnamon and spice baking in the oven. If you are the same as me, then I believe you will enjoy this recipe for moist banana muffins with a cinnamon sugar topping. They are light and fluffy, super easy to whip up a batch and the smell that fills your home? Mmm, divine!
I try and always have bananas in our home, they are a daily staple in my diet but too often they go ripe on me and I am left mashing and freezing them. Don’t get me wrong, we love banana loaf in our home but why not try something a little different this Fall? Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
Alright so lets get baking!! This recipe was given to me by my momma and we have been enjoying it for many years now. And now its your turn to heat up the oven and make some muffins for breakfast.
Banana Muffins
makes approx 18 muffins

3/4 Cup margarine, room temp
1 1/2 Cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 Cups mashed banana’s (I used 3)
1 Tsp baking soda
1 Tsp baking powder
2 Cups flour
1 Tsp vanilla
Cream your margarine and brown sugar together before slowly adding the remaining ingredients in your mixer. Divide batter evenly amongst your muffin tins, 3/4 full. I used paper linings but you can also spray your pans well.
Topping
1/4 Cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon then sprinkle it generously overtop the muffin batter
Now pop those muffins in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes and wait for the smells of cinnamon and sugar to waft thru your home!
I find I enjoy a more moist muffin top so the 2nd day is better, after it has had a night to sit, covered.
Enjoy!!
