{starting today I will be on a bit of a holiday with the hubs and my family and will not be back to regular posting til mid week next week, I have scheduled posts for the days I am gone though, so you just might not even realize I’m gone!!}
In the midst of our crazy busy beginning of summer, we had about 13 loads of concrete delivered to the farm to fill the pilings that our 10 new grain bins will stand on. It was a big job that required all hands on deck at times and very long hours. I’ll show you in another post exactly what we did, but today was a fun little thing A & I did after the concrete was poured…we marked our existence here for many years to come..

We left our handprints {and paw prints} in the concrete so that no matter where we are, a part of us will always be here on the farm..

Our piling dried beautifully and looks amazing. Unfortunately, Jakeys got a little destroyed while taking the form off but never the less, his paw prints will remain here forever as well..
(this picture is hard to make out but Jakes name & date are on either side of the metal while his paw prints are on the bottom)
This little marking, however small it may be, helped connect me that much more to the farm. It allows me to feel as though I belong here..and thats all anyone every wants, come to think of it!!

For our holiday weekend (Canada Day) we took off to the lake with family for a fun filled, relaxing evening by the water. It always amazes me that a place in the middle of the prairies, a mere hour and a half away from the farm can host such a relaxing atmosphere and make everyone take their time to enjoy the simple things in life. We sat and talked, we drank beer, we swam, we went on the jet ski, we fished, we roasted marshmallows, we slept. But something that truly stands out to me about our weekend at the lake was that we went for a canoe ride..my farmer, me..and Jakey. Yup folks, we take our dog everywhere..

At first, Jakey did not want to get in the canoe with us, I hardly blame him! But I thought it would be cute and fun and let me tell you, once we got in and he started moving around, threatening that we could tip over, I quickly realized the error in my thinking. But, we got some really fun photos out of the deal and even a few “aww, they brought their dog” comments from fellow boaters on the lake..making all worth while! The fact that we didn’t tip, was purely just a bonus..

Getting Jakey in to the canoe was actually fairly painless and quick. He was very hesitant to get in on his own, but after a little push from me, he was good to go!!

Seeing these photos makes me smile..I just really love my little family:)

{hello?….is this thing still on?!?}

I have no idea how I managed to leave this blog virtually silent these past 2 weeks but I do apologize! I guess the beginning of Summer has been busier than I thought it would be and unfortunately my little space on here was thrown to the bottom on the priority list! But, never fear..I’m back!!! We have been so busy around here, I can hardly wait to share with you what I have been up to!! But first off, I just have to tell you about my weekend findings in the garden.

Its Month 3 in my vegetable garden and I am just as in love with it as I was the very first day..and trust me, that is highly unusual for my personality! Normally, I am over the moon ecstatic about a project but after a while I’m off and on to the next big thing, but not my garden, nope..I’m enamoured by it and every thing it does.

I will be doing a post later this week to take you thru another tour of my garden and let you see how much it has grown since last time I blogged, you just might be blown away by some things! For instance, I have peas..hundreds of them!! and in just a week or so, we will be shelling and eating them by the pound..oh yum! And some of my sunflowers? 2 feet high already! It still makes me giddy to go out there and see what has grown since the day before, what an amazing thrill it is to grow your own food. Why haven’t I done this sooner?

On Saturday morning the air was thick and humid, the sun beat down on us and the first wildflowers began to open up, which of course is an invitation for me to pick them! I loaded up Simon in the golf cart and away we went along the mustard field, picking sunflowers and other wildflowers and all I could think of was being a little girl at the lake and picking wildflowers for my grandma who would place them in a can on our dining room table. They would die the next day and I would go and pick some more..and I loved it so much and still do to this day!!

So I filled up my mason jar with all the little pretties I could find then brought then home to sit on our patio table, just like I did so many years ago..
These flowers are the essence of summer to me. They represent so many memories and passions, I just look at them every time I walk by the table and smile thinking, “ahh, summer is FINALLY here!”
Then Saturday afternoon, while burning garbage and weeding my garden, I came up with the idea of checking my potatoes to see if I had any decent sized baby potatoes to harvest and eat and you will never understand the excitement I felt when I uncovered my first baby red! It was like winning the lottery, I swear! I wish I had a photograph of my face! I had uncovered gold that was grown and nurtured by my very own hands!! I plucked that first potato out of the ground and ran to my husband to show him what I had found. Of course he was merely excited that we could eat them for supper, but proud of me none-the-less
Now, buying these sweet little gems at the farmers market is truly a treat..but growing them yourself? Wow, it just changes your perspective completely and makes you appreciate them that much more!! I love that I planted these 2 months ago and have watched them, watered them, waited for them and now they are finally here to reward me for my patience. And trust me, the cream sauce they are going in to, will make this summer taste that much sweeter..
Hope you are all enjoying your summer days!! See you tomorrow!!

Just quickly popping in over the weekend to show you my very first card for Unscripted Sketches! After reading my friend Dawns blog, I hopped on over to Unscripted Sketches to see what they were all about and, upon realizing they are celebrating Christmas in July {hello, I love Christmas!}, I couldn’t wait to get started!! Here is this weeks sketch:

and this little Christmasey beauty is my take on the sketch..
I filled my card with October Afternoon, Papertrey Ink cardstock and burlap and am so happy with how it turned out! Probably one of the fastest cards to ever come together and that is exactly why I love sketches like these! They take the guesswork out and give you room to just play with colors and patterns.
The sketch made me want to layer my patterned papers but when I got to my centre embellishments, I just didn’t want to stop! So then came the burlap, patterned paper and cardstock sticker!
Thank you so much for stopping by today! If you are participating in this weeks sketch challenge, be sure to leave a comment below as I would love to check out your take on the sketch as well!! Have a great weekend everyone!

  • dawn - Hi Dawn,

    What a cute card this is, love love all the little layers. Great Santa on the front!

    I’m so glad you are excited about Christmas in July, it’s such a neat idea. How exciting to have something new each day to see about Christmas, can’t believe it’s almost 6 months away already.

    Well, our camping didn’t go as well. We left at midnight to come home, even got lost coming home, I took a wrong turn. There was good parts and then not so good parts. The weather was just to hot for some of us, my hubby got a cold starting the night before and kicked in while at camp, EVERYBODY WAS THERE, SUPER PACKED which made swimming not so fun on this HOT HOT day.
    Will be doing a post sometime this week about it and showing pictures. We might try to go another time this summer on a cooler weekend.
    Thanks for stopping by and thanks again for doing Christmas in July with me and Tracey, so fuuuuuunnnn!!

    Enjoy your Sunday,
    Hugs,
    DawnReplyCancel
