Well, its Day 11 and I am happy to report all fifteen of my babies are doing very well. They are growing and changing everyday, eating like crazy and trying to fly out of their brooder at a rapid rate. I had no idea my chicks would grow up this fast!  They began sporting tail feathers 3 days ago and this morning, when I checked on them, they are growing feathers around the back of their necks! Pretty soon they won’r be chicks anymore and while that saddens me a little, I’m very happy they are all happy & doing well. With that being said though, I do have a Barred Rock with a swollen crop that was noticed yesterday. She has a huge bulge in the front of her neck to the right side. When I felt it, it was squishy and felt like a water balloon. Immediately I panicked and contacted the breeder who informed me that it was ‘sour crop’ and to give her a mixture of 1 TBSP of apple cider vinegar to 1 gallon of water, which I did immediately. I was an emotional mess yesterday over the thought that I could lose a chick but, thankfully so far, she is alert, awake, eating, drinking and pooping {sorry} and those are all very good signs. Hopefully the apple cider vinegar water does the trick and my babe can return to normal..I will let you know how she does over the weekend though. With that being said, who wants to see some cute baby chicks? Here is my flock at 1.5 weeks old..

Yes – I am quite the proud owner of these babies..my husband says he wishes they could realize how lucky they are to be at our farm 😉 Now – the baby with sour crop is below:
Notice the bulge in front of her neck?
Please cross your fingers that her crop starts working and gets the food processed and away. I’m hoping to see the swelling reduce as time goes on – I’ll let you know. Other than that, have a GREAT weekend everyone! I’ll be back next week with evening posts for A Week in the Life

So if you have been reading any crafty blogs lately, you will know that next week marks the beginning of Ali Edwards, Week in the Life project..you can read all about it here. Now, its no secret I suck at following thru with projects…but its also no secret that I do love to start them 😉 With that in mind, I wasn’t going to attempt to document a week in our lives but after reading everyone elses’ words on the project and realizing I could do this..I’m going to give it a whirl. The biggest factors in wanting to document a week in our life is that:

a) I can place it in my Project Life album
b) we are just starting seeding and things are getting busy, it’ll make for great memories to document this vital time in our year
c) as this is our first year of marriage – why wouldn’t I want to document what a normal week looks like for us?

Capturing ‘whats for dinner’ is always a great photo idea!

At first I thought capturing the ‘every day’ moments would be my hang up, but after looking through my camera roll – I quickly realized I am already documenting the details in my every day life, so that excuse was tossed right out the window! This year I also {finally} have an IPhone, making it so much easier to capture the tiny details of every day living..

What does your everyday routine look like?

My goal for next week is to capture all the moments that make up our day. What time we wake up at, what our routines look like, what we ate, watched, did..everything! Only thing I haven’t figured out is exactly how I want to work ‘Week in the Life’ with my ‘Project Life’ album and am excited to see how everyone does theirs!! Are you participating in Week in the Life? Can’t wait to share my photos/days with you every day next week (beginning on Monday – my blog posts will be in the evening after I have captured our days) Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Well, its been a month since I planted my 21 strawberry seeds {you can read about it here} and I am proud to say I have 12 of the 21 seeds growing and I’m feeling optimistic I might actually have  strawberries to harvest this summer:)I have been buying strawberries from the grocery store a lot lately and although most have been tasty, I can’t help but think ones grown in my own garden would taste even better!

Thoughts so far: Growing strawberries from seed is a very long process. The package stated to plant these little guys 10 weeks before last frost and my gosh, they weren’t kidding! It has been 4 weeks and although I keep seeing new seedlings burst through the soil, once they are up they grow at a snails pace. Two of the larger seedlings have finally sprouted new leaves and have grown to about 1″ in total. Is it worth it? Absolutely! I’m learning everyday, teaching myself what to do and {most importantly} what not to do. Would buying seedlings be easier? Of course! But, where is the fun in that?! If these strawberry plants make it..they will be the best tasting strawberries we eat all year and if they make it, they will be turned in to the tastiest freezer jam too!

Note: These specific strawberry seeds are for planting/growing in containers, not in the ground

AND for all you crafty people – did you see the latest Papertrey Ink release? Nicole partnered up with Michelle Wooderson to create: Strawberry Patch

If you are in on the strawberry craze right now, be sure to pick up this stamp set, I know I did:)Can’t wait to use it!!
